Our Mission: Ethics and Sustainability
March 06, 2024All our high quality jewels are made from 70% recycled metals and we are constantly striving to be more ethical and environmentally conscious while sourcing our materials and constructing our pieces. Every style of jewellery we share with you is hypoallergenic and suitable for all skin types. We pride ourselves on creating jewels that are crafted with intention and designed to last.
Our Production Partners are a family business who use the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals to guide their business practice and uphold values of gender equality, climate action and human rights every step of the way. Their policies surrounding responsible consumption and production create a culture of consumer accountability and environmental awareness which translates into the care and skill that is put in to every piece of jewellery. Our production partners are B Corp certified and are a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council, a global body which works with businesses to implement sustainable and responsible practices.
The silver used in all our pieces are sourced from an Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) certified vendor, and the recycled silver is sourced from Metallix, an ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) certified precious metal refinery, instead of mines. Metallix prioritises employee health and safety and environmental wellbeing, facilitating annual safety training for employees and frequent equipment inspections. The scrap silver from our partner's facilities are sent to Metallix where the recycling process takes place, and our parters also recycle silver and reuse stones within their own supply chain. Our 18K Gold Vermeil uses Fairmined Gold sourced from artisanal and small-scale mines (ASM) which is ethically sourced from mines that meet a strict criteria of environmental protection, social development and labor rights. They also implement the Kimberly Process, an international initiative to prevent "blood diamonds", diamonds mined in war zones used to finance rebel militia, from entering the legitimate diamond trade.
The use of chemicals, toxic ingredients and lead is avoided during the production process and our partners are actively reducing the use of energy from fossil fuels in their office and work spaces. The key to sustainable and responsible jewellery production lies in the quality of each piece. The skilled craftsmanship and experience of our production partners guarantees that your jewellery will endure the wear and tear of daily use and will last you a lifetime. We are small batch producers, which means our jewellery is hand-crafted in limited numbers which negates wasteful overproduction. This is one of the many ways we are looking after our planet at every stage of our supply chain.
Every piece of our jewellery starts with a hand carved wax mould that is carefully crafted to replicate the final desired product. Talented craftspeople use the traditional 'lost wax casting' method, pouring molten metal into a ceramic mould of the wax replica. Every piece of jewellery is passed through a dozen hands, from master mould makers and stone setters to polishers, ensuring the best quality in every design.
Our production partners pay employees above or equal to a liveable wage, provide 90 days maternity leave and compensation for regular and overtime hours. Their Employee-Led Credit Union provides additional support in case of a financial emergency. They also fund and sponsor education scholarships, wellness retreats, family and community events in the local areas of their employees and ensure long-term careers by providing career development opportunities within the workplace.
